Black Food Bookstore Supports Bahamas Correctional Officers for International Men’s Day

.

In celebration of International Men's Day on November 19, 2024, Black Food Bookstore and Culture Shop, a proud, small Black-owned business, has donated 100 copies of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

The books are just one of the gifts that will be presented to the dedicated correctional officers at a ceremony today organized by the Department of Correctional Services as a token of appreciation for their unwavering service and commitment to creating safer and more positive environments within the correctional system.

“We were honored when the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services reached out to us for this donation,” said Charo Morley, co-owner of Black Food Bookstore and Culture Shop. “This is our way of saying thank you to the men who serve in such a vital role in our community. Frederick Douglass’ story is one of resilience, transformation, and the power of positive role models, which we hope will inspire and motivate those who work to uplift and guide others.”

International Men's Day is celebrated every November 19th, to appreciate men's contribution to society, community, and family and reflect on their challenges.

This year the day aims to honour and recognise the positive role men play in inspiring, supporting and leading in their unique ways, under the theme "Positive Role Models".

Wishing all men a happy International Men's Day! Thank you for your contributions to society and the communities you serve.
