Intra-African Trade Fair 2025

.

This September, Charo Morley (Co-owner of Black Food Bookstore & Culture Shop) had the privilege of attending the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025 in the vibrant city of Algiers, Algeria. The fair, often called “The AfCFTA Marketplace,” truly lived up to its reputation as a gateway to new opportunities across the continent.

Walking through the exhibition halls was an unforgettable experience. I met and engaged with hundreds of exhibitors representing diverse industries—from agriculture and manufacturing to creative arts and technology. Each booth told a unique story of innovation, resilience, and vision for Africa’s future.

One of the highlights for me was sampling products that reflect the richness of African creativity and resources. I enjoyed everything from shea butter and natural skincare to the irresistible crunch of kelewele chips. Beyond food and wellness, I had the opportunity to explore clothing and textiles, shoes, accessories, and beautifully crafted gift items, each showcasing the craftsmanship and cultural pride of their creators.

The trade fair wasn’t just about products on display—it was also a hub of knowledge sharing. I attended several panel discussions where industry leaders, investors, and policymakers shared insights on Africa’s business and investment climate. These conversations opened my eyes to the depth of opportunity that exists in intra-African trade and the role we can all play in building stronger commercial ties across borders. I was especially encouraged to see that the Caribbean was included in the conversation, highlighting the vital role of Africa–Caribbean linkages in strengthening trade and cultural exchange.

What stood out most was the spirit of collaboration and connection. The IATF is more than an exhibition; it’s a meeting place for ideas, partnerships, and pathways to growth. Being able to witness and participate in this marketplace of opportunities was both inspiring and empowering.

As I leave Algiers, I carry with me not just the products I sampled or the sessions I attended, but a renewed belief in Africa’s potential. The future of African trade is bright—and I am excited to see how businesses, big and small, will shape that future together. I look forward with great anticipation to the next Intra-African Trade Fair in 2027, which will be hosted in Nigeria.
